Having a great Thanksgiving Day with my son, David, 30 years old, who is diligently studying for his law school exams as I simply basque in spending time with him, given his hectic schedule. On this quiet, cozy, rainy day, I’m writing to you about love. In this chapter of my life, I’m especially grateful for the love of family and friends. I’m thinking about the holidays — a time when we get all dolled up and go out to special gatherings. I don’t know about you but I’m danged pleased to have that opportunity, whether its to attend one ... Read More »

“Honor the Dignity of The Child” — That’s the sign I made and placed on the hall mirror when my children were little. I wanted a reminder that those small beings I birthed had the same right to respect and honor as us adults. Not that they had been being treated differently; I just wanted to make certain they felt it in their spirits with every action, in every moment, and in every encounter. As I observe my grandchild, Vivienne, two years, three months old, I think about how it must feel to be experiencing so many new things as she ... Read More »

“Why, Certainly!”

I remember my crotchety, old Aunt Fannie, whom I loved very much, but who was chronically and woefully negative more often than not. But That Was Yesterday

While listening to some oldies recently, one of my favorites came up — a song from 1963. Do you know it? It’s about summer love, entitled “Yesterday’s Gone” by Chad & Jeremy. The refrain goes: “But that was yesterday, and yesterday’s gone.” More and more I’ve been thinking about that sentiment, but in a new way. I want to be sure I don’t squander my chances for having the richest, best experiences I can in life. I don’t want to look back someday with sadness or regret, saying “yesterday is gone”. Which brings me to this thought about the special ... Read More »

Higher Ground

These days, bonding between family and friends seems more important than ever before. I tend to hurriedly run past the potential sometimes, but those everyday acts that support and encourage a sense of belonging and connection can carry such great benefits. I think it’s good to sit still and give them a moment of attention, to fortify us and bring us back to our strong base, reminding us of who we are, together. In doing so, we place ourselves on higher ground. * Lately, I’ve felt undone as I listen to the news.  Have you?  Things are happening in politics ... Read More »
