Atencion! Addendum to “Purrfectly Delightful Experiences!
Oh my! You won’t BELIEVE what happened just now, since publishing my last post! I went to my room to get ready for bed and noticed an interesting odor, then a curious bulge in the sheet that covers my rollaway bed…pulled it back and saw in the dark corner our black neighborhood cat surrounded by four brand new baby kittens! All just born and all getting cleaned and ready for their new life –Amazing! I got out my handy dandy headlamp and shined a light on the situation. There they were, slick, pretty, purrfectly black little creatures, with the mother hovering nearby, speaking to me all about it. We chatted a second and I told her she did a good job. I then ran to the front porch and said in the craziest español you’ve ever heard “[tooltip text=”El gato” gravity=”nw”] In my excitement, I called her a boy cat. Should have said “La Gata, La Gata!”[/tooltip]negro!! (See, I even used the wrong gender!) Tiene babies! Tiene babies in my [tooltip text=”pieza” gravity=”nw”]bedroom[/tooltip]!!! We ran to look and decided to wait ’til Z came home since she is experienced in these matters. (The white kitty in the earlier photo had kittens not too long ago).
Within thirty minutes all the little critters had begun tiny little mewing. I paced back and forth, wondering if I should help or stay outta the way. I googled “what to do when a cat has kittens” and didn’t learn anything except to leave them alone. Leave them alone for the night in my little room? Sleep elsewhere and let them have my suite? No worries — within a few hours I noticed there were only three, then two, then watched as the mama cat transported the last one to the [tooltip text=”parrillada” gravity=”nw”]outdoor brick oven[/tooltip] in the [tooltip text=”quincho” gravity=”nw”]outdoor kitchen[/tooltip]. The mama is covering them and keeping them warm behind a curtain underneath the parrillada and all is well here in Paraguay. A purrfectly delightful experience, once again.
