Excellence Down a Back Road
Dear Frank,
On one of our excursions in Rubble, we were making a trek Lee had already discovered and had wanted to show us. So, down the dirt roads we went, hair flying, holding on, crossing through shallow riverbeds, water splashing up onto us as we went. We came to Puente Mejor Cada Día, a bridge leading towards Presita de Santa Rosa, a sweet little community. You can learn about that bridge and more, here.
As I sat in the backseat, I took a look at Google Maps and our little blue dot showed that we were very near a place called “San Miguel de Allende Tennis Academy”! Letting out a yelp we took the next left down a dirt road that led us right to the spot. We were greeted by two smiling dogs (really! smiling!) and went in to meet Ángel, the proprietor and coach. He took us down a gravel path where we came upon a set of professional-grade tennis courts! He told us about the camps held there and eventually, we asked if Vivi and Charles could take lessons from him. We learned that his 12-year-old daughter had recently won 1st place in Mexico’s 12 and under category! Check out a snippet of Vivi’s class here:

Both kiddos were immediately scheduled for several lessons a week during our stay. We watched them both do so well given Ángel’s expert ability with children. All the while, one of the adorable smiling dogs would fetch the tennis balls and return them to the feet of Ángel.
What a serendipitous experience. Always something good going on when we make our way down to Casa Alfaro!
Be sure to read the other story I posted along with this one. It’s full of details and photos of our most recent stay at Casa Alfaro! You’ll find it here.
Love,
Jane
