Hi!

You were right. This was a great idea. Prague is a delicious place and I’m so excited as Stephanie and I sit here at the end of our first day, planning what we will do and where we will go tomorrow.

The flight to Prague was uneventful except for this scary creature. Actually, it’s me, prepped for sleeping. Upon seeing this get-up, my seatmate thought a claw would be fitting so he proceeded to position my hand just right for a photo.

Obviously, Paul and I had easily become friends within the first five minutes on the plane. He and his wife Rosemary are an intellectual, beautifully laid back couple with such an easy, unassuming way about them. It was great passing time with them while on the flight – reading, chatting, eating and occasionally finding a position comfortable enough in which to manage a nap.

Upon landing, Stephanie and I met our driver and shuttled to the hotel located near the entrance to the Charles Bridge. After unpacking, off we went to eat and get a first glimpse of the elegance of Prague.

Just outside our door, along the cobblestone streets, the luscious architectural beauty in every direction left us speechless. (Well, maybe not. Neither of us are ever rendered speechless). The quantity and beauty of the softly-hued buildings and their stately adornments took us by such surprise.

It was overcast as we made our way up the Charles Bridge, and that added to the drama of this famous structure.  There was no break in the exquisite sensory experience – the Vlatava River below and majestic statuary standing over us along the way.  With each step, we were in awe of such artistry and history all together in one spot.

Charles Bridge’s construction started in 1357 during the reign of King Charles IV and it was finished in the beginning of the 15th century.

At the end of the day, having gone for quite a while without true sleep, we retired to our room where I took advantage of all the goodness provided: a bubble bath with argan oil products, a thick terrycloth robe, slippers, and chocolates.

Dobrou noc and see you tomorrow!

Jane
