Do you have someone in your life whose friendship over the years has given you the confidence and heartfelt assurance that if you were in need, you could call on them at any time, anywhere, and they’d be there?  I know such a couple, and even though we haven’t been in constant touch, they are the ones I know I can count on.  

Each half of this couple has their own set of special traits but so many of those are shared between the two and they meld together beautifully. She is an excellent and knowledgeable problem solver, and is a great listener with a kind heart and an all-inclusive nature. With both joy and thoughtful consideration, she can orchestrate good things into being.

He is assertive, loyal, also supremely kindhearted, very pro-active, and successful in his approach to getting things done. Together, they make things happen and it’s always armed with care and compassion.

But, that’s not the full picture and doesn’t quite describe what makes this couple who they are. Here it is:  It’s the foundation they stand upon. A solid foundation of spiritual depth is shared between them. That’s the reason they are able to operate the way they do as a team. It’s their faith working together that keeps them prayerfully, consistently accomplishing for the good of others. That foundation is priceless, don’t you know? To me, it’s the cornerstone of the best partnership.  

Now has come the time when he needs our prayers. He has been at war with cancer and they are away from home for his lengthy treatment program. Thankfully, they are seeing good results. Day by day, his body is responding well to the treatment.  

Giving back is what truly comes to mind in this situation. It’s a reciprocity that brings love for others full circle – within a community of strangers and friends, alike.

This situation has been the catalyst, the shout in my ear, the whispered reminder, the tap on my shoulder, a call to action. At one moment I feel bereft, lacking. The next moment, I open my eyes:  Now is my opportunity and I take it. I thank God for what He has already done, then I send Him my heartfelt petition, fervently asking for healing for this man, my friend. Continuously. I pray for her, too, my dear friend. God, give them strength, comfort, wisdom. As a matter of fact, I ask, please pour it over the whole family, their faithful friends, old and new, and the medical team, too. 

I reach for the arrow, position it in my bow, then looking upward, I aim and release this request to heaven. Tomorrow, I’ll do the same.
